NICET Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems (ITFAS) - Level 2
The Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems certification program is for engineering technicians engaged in the performance, documentation, planning, and coordination of periodic inspection and testing of existing fire alarm systems and their components (does not include commissioning of new systems). The candidate for NICET certification at Level II in Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems should have a minimum of 18 months (the minimum required for Level I, plus a minimum of 12 additional months) of experience in the inspection and testing of fire alarm and suppression interfaces, and have the knowledge and experience.

The Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems exam is delivered on a computer at Pearson Vue Testing Centers.

Content Outline:
- Plan and Coordinate Work (Questions related to these tasks make up 15-25% of the exam.)
- Determine the scope of an inspection and testing assignment involving interfaces with other systems.
- Survey a system to identify types and locations of devices, fire alarm system interfaces, potential problems, and existing documentation.
- Determine the presence of other fire protection and building systems, and confirm device locations.
- Coordinate inspection and testing with the owner, other trades and specialties prior to, during, and upon completion of the inspection.
- Identify, read, and interpret the appropriate codes and standards for the inspection assignment.
- Inspect Interfaces and Specialty Equipment (Questions related to these tasks make up 20-30% of the exam.)
- Inspect elevator recall and shutdown interfaces.
- Inspect smoke control system interfaces.
- Inspect interfaces with suppression systems and pre-action systems.
- Inspect emergency communication systems equipment (e.g., ERCES, ARA, firefighter phones, mass notification).
- Inspect specialized detection equipment.
- Inspect networked control equipment.
- Test Functionality of Specialized and Interfaced Equipment (Questions related to these tasks make up 50-60% of the exam.)
- Test elevator recall and shutdown activation.
- Test smoke control system interfaces.
- Test interfaces with suppression systems and pre-action systems.
- Test emergency communication systems equipment (e.g., ERCES, ARA, firefighter phones, mass notification).
- Test specialized detection equipment.
- Test networked control equipment.
- Measure sensitivity of detectors.
- Complete testing and issue documentation.
- Test complex notification systems.
