2021 Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC®)

The 2021 Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC®) provides the latest plumbing industry requirements and practices for designing, installing, maintaining, and inspecting safe and sanitary plumbing systems. Developed through the ANSI Consensus process and designated as an American National Standard by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the 2021 UPC incorporates contributions from consumers, code officials, installers, manufacturers, labor representatives, testing laboratories, researchers, and other plumbing industry professionals.

The 2021 Uniform Plumbing Code is designed to help ensure safe, sanitary, and reliable plumbing systems while providing flexibility for innovation and the adoption of new plumbing technologies.

Key Updates in the 2021 UPC

The 2021 edition includes important updates and new provisions covering:

New Appendix N: Impact of Water Temperature on the Potential for Scalding and Legionella Growth
New requirements for backflow prevention devices, assemblies, and methods
New provisions for temperature-limiting devices
Updated guard and rail requirements for appliances installed on roofs and platforms
