Any person desiring to obtain a license as a mold assessor or remediator must pass one of the written examinations approved by the department. Mold-related services examinations are provided by nationally recognized entities and are not administered by the department. Examinations must be proctored.

The mold assessment examination covers the physical sampling and detailed evaluation of data obtained from a building history and inspection to formulate an initial hypothesis about the origin, identity, location, and extent of amplification of mold growth greater than 10 square feet. The mold remediator examination covers the removal, cleaning, sanitizing, demolition, or other treatment, including preventive activities, of mold or mold-contaminated matter greater than 10 square feet.

Qualification:

 2-year associate of arts degree and 1 year experience in a field related to mold remediation

 High School diploma with a minimum of 4 years experience in a field related to mold remediation


Application Requirements:

 
  • EXAMINATION: Individuals seeking licensure as a Mold Remediator must first take and pass a department approved exam for mold remediation. For information about the examination, visit the DPBR Examination Information webpage.
  • EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A copy of a transcript is required demonstrating an Associate of Arts degree or higher in microbiology, engineering, architecture, industrial hygiene or occupational safety or related field of science from an accredited institution. The applicant must also demonstrate a minimum of 1 year of documented field experience in a field related to mold remediation;a high school diploma and 4 years of documented field experience in a field related to mold remediation.   • FINGERPRINTS: An applicant must have a background check as part of the licensing process. You must submit your fingerprints using a Livescan Service Provider registered with FDLE immediately after submitting your application for licensure. It may take up to five days for your fingerprint results to be received by the Department after they are submitted to the Florida Department of Law enforcement (FDLE). Please note that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement requires that an application for licensure should precede the submission of your fingerprints.   • INSURANCE: Applicants for a Mold Remediator license are required to attest that they have obtained general liability insurance in the amount of no less than $1 million dollars as determined by statute.
  • FEE: Pay the required fee as provided in the application. If applying online, you can pay with a credit card or electronic check. If mailing your application, please include a check payable to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Military veterans, their spouses and Florida National Guard members may be eligible for a fee waiver, fee reimbursement, and/or fee discount. OUT OF STATE APPLICANTS:

NOTE: To be eligible for licensure by endorsement, out of state applicants must meet at least one

of the following requirements:

□ Hold a valid mold assessment or remediation license from a state or territory of the United States

whose licensure requirements are substantially equivalent to those of this state. Include a certificate of licensure from your home state that shows:

o Your name

o License number

o Date of initial licensure

o That your license is in good standing

□ Be qualified for licensure as set forth in Section 468.8413 and have passed a mold assessment or

remediation certification examination that has been approved by the Department as substantially

equivalent to the requirements in Part XVI of Chapter 468 and Section 455.217 F.S.

□ Held a valid license to practice mold assessment or mold remediation from a state or territory of

the United States for at least 10 years before the date of this application. This application must be

made either when the license in the other state or territory is active or within 2 years after such

license was last active. Include a certificate of licensure from your home state that shows:

o Your name

o License number

o Date of initial licensure

o That your license is in good standing or was active within the last 2 years of this application.
