NICET has updated the In-Building Public Safety Communications (IB-PSC) exams on December 2nd, 2024.

Content Outline:

  • Defining the Project Scope (Questions related to these tasks make up 15-25% of the exam.)
    • Review and interpret project specifications.
    • Review and interpret project drawings.
    • Understand and comply with project schedules.
  • Evaluating RF Signal Strength and Quality (Questions related to these tasks make up 20-30% of the exam.) 
    • Measure RF signal strength and quality.
    • Troubleshoot issues that impact RF performance.
  • Performing Rough Installation Activities (Questions related to these tasks make up 15-25% of the exam.)
    • Test cable.
    • Validate passive equipment installation.
    • Verify electrical and grounding requirements.
  • Performing Finish and Trim Out Installation Activities (Questions related to these tasks make up 10-20% of the exam.) 
    • Validate electrical and grounding installation.
    • Interface with fire alarm systems
  • Performing Commissioning, Acceptance Test, and Maintenance Activities (Questions related to these tasks make up 20-30% of the exam.) 
    • Adjust headend and remote amplification equipment.
    • Test system alarms.
    • Test battery backup (BBU).
